UPDATE
Eli Lilly's Restrictions on Compounding Tirzepatide: Eli Lilly is implementing measures to limit or prevent the compounding of Tirzepatide by pharmacies. This likely stems from intellectual property concerns and efforts to protect the market share of their brand-name drugs, Mounjaro and Zepbound.
Compound Pharmacy's Policy Adjustment: To avoid legal or regulatory issues, The pharmacy has prohibited prescriptions matching the exact doses available commercially (e.g., 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 7.5 mg, 10 mg, etc.).
Providers must order prescriptions using adjusted instructions (e.g., dosing in units).
Patient Dosing Explanation: For example patients prescribed a dose equivalent to 7 mg, the instructions will state 70 units to align with the altered prescription format. Patients who wish to take a slightly higher dose (e.g., 7.5 mg) can adjust their administration accordingly (e.g., 75 units).
Vial Supply Adjustment: Vials are compounded with sufficient medication to accommodate the dosing flexibility, ensuring patients can follow their desired regimen without running out of medication.
Purpose: Add B12 to prevent nausea/vomiting and use compounded vials that offer flexible dosing for patients to achieve lowest effective dose to minimize side effects with successful outcomes.
